equipment

we use

A visual and physical inspection of the equipment is conducted to ensure no undue wear and tear on the equipment has taken place, that may make it unsafe in the near future.

Electrical tests are performed using a Portable Appliance Tester or other electronic test equipment. Tests conducted include Earth leakage, earth continuity, cable polarity and insulation between earth and active parts.

All tests are recorded electronically on site and a record is kept.
Successful testing of equipment results in a tag placed on the device which states the test date as well as the next due date.

In the even of equipment that has failed  testing and it is not possible to repair it on site, a danger tag is fitted and the equipment is removed from service.

At the completion of testing, all details are inserted into the test report.

Single Phase Appliances:

  • Single phase equipment is commonly used in homes, workshops etc. Testing is usually carried out using a Portable Appliance Tester which has the ability to test different types of equipment and perform several tests in the one sequence.

Three Phase Appliances:

  • Three phase power is used on equipment that requires greater power than the normal 10 or 15 amp power circuits. It is mainly used in industrial situations. The testing of this equipment has a greater level of complexity than single phase equipment. Therefore in some cases additional test equipment may be required.

Power Lead test and tag:

  • Testing is performed in accordance to Australian standards. All item tested are clearly tagged and dated to ensure safety and easy maintenance.

Residual Current Devices:

  • RCD’s are a safety device that is used on some portable power boards or installed in switchboards.Their purpose is to protect the user of an appliance from an electric shock due to an electrical fault in the appliance. All RCD’s have a manual test button that should be used to test the device on a monthly basis by the  owner. The Australian Standard  AS 3760-2010 requires electrical testing on a regular basis and this service is conducted by Auscrew Safety Services.
